The ‘Custom’ Of Murdering One’s Parents in Tamil Nadu

I have stopped writing blog for couple of months but this news made me write immediately. I got the shock of my life when I saw news in Yahoo which says 'Poor men killing mothers in Tamil Nadu'. It's really hard to digest, but the fact is that this is happening in interior parts of Tamil Nadu. Poverty -stricken men are performing a ritual and killing their elderly mothers in Tamil Nadu's industry hub of Virudhunagar, a magazine has reported.. "Young family members of this district in southern Tamil Nadu have been pushing their infirm, elderly dependents to death because they cannot afford to take care of them".

There is an accepted so called ritual but it is a murder practice which is called 'Thalaikoothal'. Thalaikoothal works thus: an extensive oil bath is given to an elderly person before the crack of dawn. The rest of the day, he or she is given several glasses of cold tender coconut water. Ironically, this is everything a mother would've told her child not to do while taking an oil bath. ,"Tender Coconut water taken in excess causes renal failure," says Dr.Ashok Kumar a practising physician in Madurai. By evening, the body temperature falls sharply. In day or two, the old man or woman dies of high fever. This method is fail -proof "because the elderly often do not have the immunity to survive the sudden fever," says Dr.Kumar.

So should we simply build a well in every district of every town-so that any one who thinks he has an 'expensive' family member can have them go and jump in? Wouldn't that also reduce all the head ache of buying so much oil, milk and injections? Should the children who murder their parents be allowed to have children of their own? There are questions most authorities fail to ask. Local doctors, village heads and district magistrates are witness to ritual murders and collective abandoning from distinction between crime custom and reality. I can only say that the practise enjoys covert social acceptance and no one complains.

Indian are known for their respect and unconditional love towards their parents. "Parents are supreme Gods". India has face riots, famines, floods and draughts. So many unnamed mortals died a silent death under the plethora of money-less existence. Truly, the rich is becoming richer and the poor is unfortunately being murdered-by the sweat of reality and the dust and grime left of the ash of their dreams-broken, killed and burnt.

Are we so poor that we unmask the devil of helpless poverty to kill our parents by our own hands? Helpless poverty. That's a term we have heard a million times-mostly over used. Has poverty depressed our Humanity to a blithe? can we improve the situation? Can we change what we see? Is the urban India even unaware that people are not just dying out of poverty but they're killing too.? Are we too late already?

Ego or Honour Killing

It is natural that parents feel indignant and ashamed if children do something against the laws of a society and damage their reputation. The indignation and shame turn into anger and persons with peeked ego, even turn revengeful. The 'Ego' is the disproportionate pride a person has, in his judgment, rightfulness and intelligence, combined with a superior feeling over others, especially the ones whom he considers inferior or immature. This 'Ego' is named 'Honour' by the egotistic people. We can also call 'Ego' as extreme selfishness for, this commands them to make others obey their 'self'. They even lose integrity while getting their wishes done. 'Honour', by contrast, is integrity, trustworthiness and keeping up one's word. We must accept the fact that in our country many differences exist and however much the reformers try, the differences do not dissolve. Love marriages have become common, we claim, but when two people choose each other to get married, they have to fight a battle with the objections raised with religion, region, language, caste, class, social ranking and strangely, even colour. Affluence solely decides the social ranking. Though wealth brushes aside many differences, caste is found to be not that easy to ignore. Even if the parents agree for an intercaste marriage for their son or daughter, the relatives stand in the way. They threaten to ostracize the family. They invariably bring in the 'honour' of the clan which is nothing but the collective 'ego' of all these people. Parents should understand the difference between 'ego' and 'honour' and with their experience try to find out whether it is a mature decision and not infatuation alone, when their son/daughter chooses a life partner. They can give their opinions and reasons if they are not satisfied with the choice. As children grow older, parents ought to loosen their emotional hold over them. The best stand for parents of grown up children is being 'friends, philosophers and guides'.

India

India is a country of ancient times and unlimited natural resources. The rivers, mountains and vegetation, not to forget its exotic spices, make the country a wonderful place to visit.
India, a land of diverse culture and religion shows unity in diversity. This country which has its roots deep in the past also has its long branches in the future. In this venture of knowing more about India, let us join hands to nourish this ancient tree.
But this doesn’t describe India fully, an recent census really was running in my mind for long time.

People in India, the world's second most populous country, have more access to a mobile telephone than to a toilet, according to a new UN report. "It is a tragic irony to think that in India, a country now wealthy enough that roughly half of the people own phones, about half cannot afford the basic necessity and dignity of a toilet," There is lot of difference between desire and needs. People must understand their basic needs first.

EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN

'INDIA' one of the select nations to implement "watershed bill" the education rights bill where every school MUST provide free education to all children from age 6 to 14(a minimum 25%). Historic day for India. A small win but a giant step. And courage to do so brings a change...
some people say its not practical, Some people say their schools business model will collapse. The child which cannot pay the fees in big private institutions will thank the school for life if the school shows the generosity to allow the child in to the school.
private schools should have private responsibility. Its their duty to preach the responsibility. The government has fulfilled its responsibility why not private schools..

Nothing in this country gets implemented unless it becomes an enforceable law and tats what has happened today. Why are some schools wary?

Education is now a fundamental right of every child...

Bold move then why the questions??

Avatar...

I am extremely picky person, but Avatar completely blew me away.

With its incredibly stunning visuals and compelling story, James Cameroon’s Avatar is memorable and meaningful. It’s so much more than a film that it looks like a 3 D treatment.
Its one of the most expensive movies ever made. And it shows in every fame an awe-inspiring land scapes unforgettable flora and fauna.

Each and every scene was mind blowing, particularly in the last scene where the female avatar looks at the human and says “I SEE YOU” and the human man looks at the female avatar and says “I SEE YOU”. The impact of the scene on me is really far above the ground. It’s since 4 days I saw the movie and still am unable to put out of my mind.
Its an IMAX 3D film but still I watched it a normal 3D version and it was just out of the ordinary. I wonder how good it would be if I would have got a chance to watch it in IMAX 3D version.
AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination. Undoubtedly, The movie was phenomenal.

Perambur Flyover

Finally the perambur flyover is opened to the public. The bridge work was started in 1998 by chief minister Mr.Karunanidhi and it was stopped due to the design fault.
In a function, the chief minister of Tami Nadu Mr.Karunanidhi officially opened the bridge to the public. The function was planned at 5 PM but the chief minister reached little late. Definitely the bridge will benefit many living in and around perambur.

When I was returning from the movie yesterday I was astonished to see the number of people thronging the place... the whole area looked like a trade fair with people; coming with their families... It looked stunning with the decorations because of its unconventional design.Roads in all the surrounding areas like villivakam, Loco have been re-laid because of the C.M's visit. I could also see hundreds of cut-outs all over. They have spent money very generously for this opening ceremony.

Flyovers are things from different world as far as the ruling party is concerned - they take credit for bringing flyovers to Chennai

Women..

There is no doubt that we are in the midst of a great revolution in the history of women. The evidence is everywhere; the voice of women is increasingly heard in Parliament, courts and in the streets. While women in the West had to fight for over a century to get some of their basic rights, like the right to vote, the Constitution of India gave women equal rights with men from the beginning. Unfortunately, women in this country are mostly unaware of their rights because of illiteracy and the oppressive tradition. Names like Kalpana Chawla: The Indian born, who fought her way up into NASA and was the first women in space, and Indira Gandhi: The Iron Woman of India was the Prime Minister of the Nation, Beauty Queens like Aishwarya Rai and Susmita Sen, and Mother Teresa are not representative of the condition of Indian women.
Ø India has the world’s largest number of professionally qualified women.
Ø India has more female doctors, surgeons, scientists and professors than the United States.
Ø India has more working women than any other country in the world. This includes female workers at all levels of skill – from the surgeon and the airline pilot to bus conductors and menial labourers.
Whatever it is, still in many villages in India women are still living like slaves without education and so ignorant of their rights. Severe laws must be passed to penalize men who cause brutality to women and government must take the initiative to educate women in villages. Education is the strongest tool to bring those women from ignorance.
Juz Proud to be a women.

Dogs... Fantastic creation of God...

The love for dogs is perhaps one of the most enduring of emotions that a vast majority of us experience. Very few of us can resist being touched by their explicit loyalty and endearing mannerisms. The great pleasure of a dog is that we make a fool of ourself with her and not only will she not scold us, but she will make a fool of herself too. Dogs are the most wonderful pets we can add to a family.. Dogs should be loved and treated well, but as we all know that is not always the case. Dog is considered Man's best friend but it is proving to be the reverse in this case....

The above shown is the picture of homeless street dogs
We just keep a dog or two in our homes and we think that we have done our job. In loving and caring for our pet dogs we forget the plight of the many other dogs that are suffering. We think that we have done all that we can and shut ourselves from reality. It is true that dog abuse exists every where. These creatures are abused in many different ways that are unimaginable. The population of dogs that are abused must be more that the dogs that receive love from human beings.
Street dogs in India are just as common as bicycles, pedestrians, or cows. City dogs can usually be seen weaving in and out of crowds of people milling about the streets, looking either for food or shelter. These dogs are skin and bones, sometimes injured or diseased, and have the ragged look of hardship and suffering.
But some officials instead of taking care of them they collect dogs from streets and kill them… Its an atrocious act to collect street dogs and kill those innocent creatures.. A person who kills dog can not have even a last drop of humanity and love in his heart.

Killing dogs must be become a brutal mistake and must be profoundly punishable by law.. People who kill dogs wantedly or for fun must be treated equally to the people who kill humans and must be punished equally… only then killing of dogs will be condensed..

"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole… Love them.. Please Love them..."

STOP THIS MADNESS

Despite scientific advancements, a large part of the population in India still follows the superstitious beliefs prevailing for ages. Superstition is acceptance of something which weakens us. It is acceptance of False. Superstition in any religion are created by fools, it is up to wise man to discard them. Thousands gather at a temple in southern India each year to have coconuts smashed on their heads in a plea to the gods for health and success. People crowd around devotees as a priest smashes a coconut on their skull. A few men chased an elephant, and tried to catch its tail during a unique ritual in Kollam in Kerala. The animal is chased by men, who have been fasting for a week. They run after the tusker trying to catch its tail, in the belief that it will fulfill their wishes. The poor beast is been torched by pulling its tail. The self-professed practitioners of black magic have been known to dupe and harm people in the name of religion or the promise of curing them of ailments or problems
Fake babas trash therapy… Dancing to the tunes of bollywood a fake baba trashes women’s, hits women very badly saying that all this could cure even the last stage of cancer... Cruelty at its bizarre best.... Infants thrown from top floors and a group of people with clothes down to catch those babies… kids pierced by hot spears, kids pierced by tridents.. It’s all said to be for their health and wellness… Is it not a pure madness to do all this…?
Child abuse in religious rituals. Killing spree in a village In Thingoli, Maharastra, Couple killed children to have babies. Above all ... Most scary, dangerous, weird rituals… In kathia, North India, baba tramples on kids to cure them... squashing infants in the name of the religion... he stands on the neck, legs and body of the young infants… squashing them… saying this is for their long health and wellness… Parent’s subject to kid’s brutality... baba was arrested after this came in media but released immediately.
All this superstitious is going on in India in the name of religion …. I don’t understand what could be the solution for all this superstitious beliefs…

When a mistake could take a life…

To Err is human and to forgive is divine… ofcourse to err is human but then when some mistakes of some human beings affects others it’s awfully liable to be punished by. Following of traffic rules proved fatal to a couple, who lives close to my place. At a signal in Chennai, the couples were riding on their bike. As usual after the signal turned red, they stopped their bike. But a speeding lorry had hit them from behind. They died on the spot. The couple had 2 children (6 yrs and 1 1/2 yrs). The children are left at the mercy of their relatives now. Now, the big question is whether following the traffic rules in cities like us is a problem to loose the life as others does not follow the same?

It’s not always the gaffe of public for such deadly accidents… It’s also others who are in an accountable position to... but we after all cant keep blaming others, we instead could become a bit responsible. Just by riding a bit slowly or just by following traffic rules and waiting in a signal for couple of minutes more could save a life then nothing superior than that… Its really agonizing to see those children without their parents which made me write this on my blog… Please afford your time for a life… ofcourse for your life too… please follow rules or help others who follow rules… Being self disciplined and being more patient could do wonders in roads of Chennai… Live and let live…

Treasure Hunt..

A day before women’s day on March 7th, The Hindu, organized a Treasure hunt, especially for women’s. The day started bit early by 7 in the morning. I and my other two friends were all set to hit the roads. We all turned as roadies were eagerly waiting for the flag off. It was all the beginning of fun… We started in City center roving around beaches, slums, pizza huts, coffee shops, schools, malls, show rooms, temples, hotels, restaurants, shops, parks and ofcourse graveyards too… This was entirely a pole apart and tremendously beyond belief experience... we went through Luke and corner of Chennai finding the clues..., pumping water on street pumps, taking pictures with rickshaws, jumping on street walls, taking pictures with all the statues on the beach road and so on… The best part of the fun was sitting inside the car with too many clues on hand …. No clue where to go and what to find…. Figuring out the clues and finding the places were the preeminent part of treasure hunt…

By the time we finished the first set of clues we all 3 were exhausted but then we had another set of clues waiting for us… with no energy we reached city center back…. But trust me it is remarkable fun to be as a part of treasure hunt… I will always treasure this experience and now am enhanced in roots and I know Chennai better… Treasure hunt a game to make u think and explore…. I am waiting for the next year’s treasure hunt... Will never miss the game for my life time... Actually the finest name for treasure hunt would be scavenger hunt J… ofcourse we were scavengers too…

An awsome Restaurant expereince

An awesome restaurant experience…

Today (10-03-2010) one of my colleague took our team for a treat in an Restaurant called “RAIN FOREST” in adayar, Chennai. Trust me it turned out to be an out of box experience.

I really loved the ambience of the restaurant. It was simply mind blowing and the taste of the food was astounding. The whole restaurants theme is a rainforest. When we enter into the restaurant we feel like entering in to a cave in a forest. Where they have heaps of thick forest tree settings, cave fountains in a really dim light, with all sorts of weird and wonderful sounds of animals and birds which we find in forest. All of a sudden in that gloomy dim light a man dressed as a black bear appears and tries scaring you. It’s a stupefying experience. If some one is really interested in having frozen fun along with food this is the superlative ever place in Chennai I ever know, and please people living in Chennai or visiting Chennai don’t ever miss this “RAIN FOREST” restaurant in adayar.

Am happy that my colleague shruti took me to such a gorgeous restaurant and offered me a fantabulous treat.

The best and an mind blowing treat I have ever had in my life.

Hundreds of Christians and Muslims kill each other in Nigeria

Sectarian violence has been going on in Nigeria for several years. According to some reports, at least 200 people, mostly Christians, were killed Sunday in response to 300 people, mostly Muslims, being killed in January.

In the comments under the article, one Christian said (talking of Muslims) "Funny for a 'peaceful' religion, everytime i read a headline with the word muslimit's always something about death and killing. I say rid the earth of all muslims........peace at last."

It's unbelievable how a person can condemn Muslims killing people in one sentence and then turn around and say they want to kill all the Muslims in the next sentence.

Proving once again that religion and ethnicity are the two most reliable causes of murder and brutality in all of human history.
